Why Locals Love Taco Casa

Nestled in the heart of Des Moines, Taco Casa offers a vibrant and authentic Mexican fast-food experience that keeps locals coming back for more. This beloved eatery specializes in delivering classic Mexican flavors with a comforting, casual vibe perfect for a quick lunch or relaxed dinner. From the moment you step in, the friendly staff and inviting atmosphere evoke a sense of warmth and familiarity, enhanced by a welcoming open layout that embraces the pre-pandemic charm.

The menu at Taco Casa is a celebration of Mexican favorites crafted with both tradition and heart. Their Chicken Quesadilla is a standout—filled with tender chicken, a blend of shredded cheeses, and zipped up with red and green mild sauces alongside red hot sauce, black olives, and green peppers. Each bite bursts with a perfectly balanced medley of smoky, mild, and savory notes. For those who crave a classic but hearty option, the Tostada Grande never disappoints. A crispy flat corn shell boasts homemade refried beans, seasoned beef, fresh lettuce, tangy sour cream, and ripe tomatoes, creating a satisfying texture and flavor combo that speaks true to Mexican culinary roots.

If lighter fare suits your mood, the Taco Salad is a fresh mix of lettuce, seasoned beef, and mild sauce—offering a refreshing yet bold taste that complements their renowned sauces lineup. Speaking of sauces, Taco Casa excels with a variety of house-made choices ranging from the beloved classic Hot Red Sauce to the fiery Habanero, allowing you to customize every dish to your perfect heat level. The distinct brightness of the Hot Green Sauce also adds a lively kick, making every bite uniquely tantalizing.

Customers consistently praise Taco Casa’s commitment to flavor and quality. Longtime fans like Brooklyn Kimble appreciate the restaurant’s thoughtful updates such as sturdier tortillas that hold their shape, ensuring each taco is a fulfilling experience without the mess. Others, like Amy Deever, commend the restored spirit and warmth that permeate the remodeled space—an extension of the care that goes into every dish. While opinions on nuances of flavor vary, the consensus celebrates Taco Casa’s enduring charm and reasonable prices. The comforting nostalgia paired with freshly made ingredients captures not only taste buds but also the heart of the local community.

Whether you’re craving a crispy Taco Grande loaded with seasoned meat and fresh toppings, or a unique creation like the Gringo, with its intriguing flour shell wrapped around a classic hard taco, Taco Casa delivers an authentic slice of Mexican fast food that feels both unpretentious and delightfully satisfying. The vibrant sauces, generous portions, and attentiveness in service come together to create a dining experience that lingers warmly in memory—ideal for anyone seeking genuine, flavorful Mexican eats in a friendly, unhurried setting.

For lovers of bold tastes, cozy atmospheres, and affordable dining, Taco Casa remains a gem worth visiting time and again in Des Moines.

I love the new look. The outside area is now inside! It's all open like it was pre-Covid. The folks working were kind and helpful. I just have one complaint, the chimi sauce wasn't included and the cheese enchiladas are smaller. Other than that, it's so much better. Love and care are back at Taco Casa!

Idk What people are complaining about here recently. I ordered the Taco Burger(O.G. Bell Burger), and a Soft Taco. People have complained on REPEAT that the ground beef #1 was unseasoned and #2 greasy. Both of these arent true at all! If anything the beef is DRY but when ordering for the sole purpose of matching the original Taco bell I grew up with. This matches that taste 100%. People also complained they changed their tortillas. Again not true. The flour tortilla that I ate my soft Taco in was SPOT ON with the original Taco Bell recepie again AS PER WHAT I ORDERED. 10/10 Recommend, 10/10 WILL ORDER AGAIN and 10/10 Will Never Question! Taco Casa still holds the reins on Original Taco Bell Flavor, Style, Customer Service, And Quality! Sure shit aint cheap as it used to be. That's inflation ya boomers! Cope. Id call $8 for my Taco Burger and $9 for a soft shelled Taco ON DOOR DASH is petty par for the coure when we are talking the portions they serve! You want a $1 Taco? Go to PepsiCo Taco Bell and get 100calories maybe. But if you want a full Taco, with real original natural ingredients we can trust to feed our kids, Taco Casa is where it is! Hope this helps! IF I was forced to make a complaint it would be this. The cheese on nachos.... While I get that it was normal cheddar cheese back in the day. This doesnt keep for delivery and hardens quick. I would prefer the other cheese(Queso) that is used on the Burritos used on the Nachos aswell instead of the O.G. Cheddar. Even if it was just offered as a modifier on your menu and door dash. One of the greatest things about O.G. Taco Bell was the MASSIVE amount of customization options they allowed and you have mostly carried over into 2025 from 1972. But this needs to carry over to the cheese.

I forgot how great this place is. Stopped to take some taco's to Nate across the street from them for the great service he does, smelled so good, went back and had lunch with my son, just as I remember, great prices and great food.

have been a loyal Taco Casa fan for YEARS. At least 20. Through thick and thin. Through broken tortillas and tacos falling apart mid-bite. I stayed. Yes, the new soft tortillas no longer self-destruct while you’re eating. And I appreciate the structural integrity. Truly. But at what cost?? The flavor is… different. Not bad, just not right. It’s like Taco Casa fixed the problem we learned to live with, but in doing so took away part of its soul. I would honestly rather risk a tortilla blowout than lose that classic taste I crave. Please consider this a formal request to bring back the old tortillas, cracks and all. Some of us are willing to suffer for flavor.

I have been a loyal customer of this establishment since my grade school days, a period spanning over 40 years. Thank you for the response. Thank you for the thin shell return.

This has pretty much become my go-to location for lunch away from home. Everyone is helpful/polite/etc., and I've only got a wrong order once in over 60 times I've ordered here over the past couple years. A special shout-out to Ashley as I've noticed she remembers names, faces, and orders of regular customers, and is extra friendly while serving folks - giving the whole experience here an extra boost.
